The Adventure

Live Your Story, Explore Your World

If you live up to their expectations

will it make you happy?

If you find your hopes and dreams

will it make them happy?

Are they your dreams, or their hopes?

Lost between obligation and aspiration,
adapting to each situation
diluting your intentions with others ambitions;
a marionette operating under societal instruction.

A tug on the strings pulls on your heart.

Stepping away against your will…

Acceptance versus desire,

Which will you follow?
With which do you lead?

About Cole Bradburn

I'm a writer and doctor in lifelong pursuit of health, happiness, and adventure. I currently live in Raleigh, NC with the love of my life and our amazing boys.

  • Love the internal rhyme and pacing of lines 6-9. Great theme here, too. I just don’t like it when my desire to wear shorts conflicts with the occupational dress code.

    • Thanks Jason, I’m glad you picked up on the pacing and rhythm of lines 6-9.  I wasn’t sure if the punctuation/style would help with that or not (I know how I hear it in my head, but it can be hard to convey in print).

I agree.  We live in a hot & humid place.  I’m pretty sure patients would look at me sideways if I rolled up in shorts!

  • great reminder. It’s about following God and His purpose for our life.

  • Enjoying your poetry series. The image really complements the words.
