What is Arete?
Arete ( /ˈærətiː/; Greek: ἀρετή), in its basic sense, means excellence of any kind. In its earliest appearance in Greek, this thought of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of living up to one’s full potential.
Just think of what would be possible if we lived this way, trying to use up every last drop of ourselves during our short time here. The apostle Paul lived this way.
Imagine what could be done to spread God’s Word to the ends of the Earth if we lived this way too…
We would change the world, leave a legacy, and live a lifetime of adventure. May we all strive for Arete.

Ready. Set. GOOOOO!
Our logo for our company is “experience the adventure” and then we teach about the rest. I like this better – encompasses the whole thing in one word!!! Thanks for posting
Sounds like a cool company! My tagline has been “Live Your Story, Explore Your World.” Like you, when I saw this word, it pretty much summed up everything I was trying to say.
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment, I appreciate it.
This is a great word and definition. I know I want to live with Arete!!! I know I’ll be using this word in the future. Thank you for sharing it.
Sure thing Dan. This has quickly became my favorite word. So much action implied in it. Great to hear from you as always!
It’s one of my new favorites.
Love this Cole. Paul, spoke of his life being “poured out like a drink offering.” Jesus, let it be so for my own life.
