Live Your Story, Explore Your World

Life’s Waiting to Begin

I wrote this while laying in bed sometime around 3:00am staring at my 3 day old boy.  He amazes me, and is giving me a better understanding of God’s love for us.

It’s overwhelming.

After the poem are pictures and the story.

Life’s Waiting to Begin

As you sleep

I’m hard at work

studying every detail of your little face,

trying to take this moment out of time

and freeze it in eternity.

You look so peaceful,

so innocent,

so beautiful.

The longer I look

the more I find myself becoming overwhelmed

by something indescribable.

You move me to tears

without even opening an eye.

My heart is ablaze for you little man.

Like a wildfire that cannot be contained

burning up all in its path so that

we can begin anew.

My life is loving you.

You’ve taught me how, and you’re only three days old.

My Son, Cillian Luke Bradburn, has arrived!

Cillian (KIH-lee-un) entered our world at 7:21pm on June 30th, 2012.  He was a week early, but was still bigger than both Casey and I were as babies.  He immediately stole our hearts with alert and wide open eyes, big hands and feet, and a flat spot on one ear that every Bradburn in my family has.

I got to rock him to sleep for the first time while Casey was getting cleaned up, and let me tell you there is no greater feeling than getting to hold and see a human being you created and dreamt about for 3/4 of a year.  It’s even better that he was made with my best friend, lover, and wife who was powerful and amazing in getting Cillian here naturally.

We can’t wait to raise this little man and watch him grow into a mighty man of purpose.  Nothing but thanks and gratitude to our birthing team who helped and supported the little man coming into our lives naturally: Kate, Lydia, and Nicole.

What a lucky little man Cillian is to have you for his daddy.  Congratulations Cole!

    1. Thank  you Robin, great to hear from you!

  4. Congrats, dude. On the newborn baby crib thing behind the first pic was a warning label for the crib. I think that’s appropriate. Babies are awesome and full of new life and possibilities, but warning dude, warning, you’re life is going to change! Warning, this little guy is gonna amaze the crap outta you as he grows! Warning, you’ll never see life the same! 🙂

    1. Haha, well said!  Thank you

  5. Congratulations. Great poem. I’m also a new father(my son is 7 months) and I can’t put words to how much I love him and this time in my life.

    1. Thank you, and agreed.  The words above don’t do it justice, this is truly the best time in my life.

  6. Cole,
Sweet, sweet, sweet. Congrats to you and your wife. He is perfect.

Even though my girls are older, I still sneak into their room and try to memorize their faces. Years later, my heart is still “ablaze” and the moments you describe here are still fresh.

    1. Thank you Amy!

I had the realization that doing that wouldn’t go away, but it is great to hear!  It is so much deeper than I anticipated.  Thank you for letting me know the feeling never changes 🙂
